Creating Spaces for Social Healing: Peacemaking in Northern Ireland

March 17 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Good Friday Agreement, signed in 1998, brought about a new chapter of peace in Northern Ireland. Although much progress has been made, there is still a need for social healing—for safe, inclusive spaces where people can come together across historic and contemporary community divides. Kiran Young Wimberly is an American Presbyterian minister and musician based in Northern Ireland with the Corrymeela Community. Join her as she shares about the peace building work the Corrymeela Community has done over the decades to hold safe spaces for building relationships between Protestants and Catholics before, during, and after the violent period of the Troubles. She will also share about the Celtic Psalms project, which has brought divided communities together around psalms set to Irish and Scottish melodies, reminding us through those ancient prayers and soulful melodies of the common humanity we share and of the God who listens to and loves us all.
