Queer Virtue: What LGBTQ People Know about Life and Love and How It Can Revitalize Christianity
10:45 am Sundays, September 18 - October 16 • Hybrid (Spellman Jr & Zoom)
Join us as we study the book Queer Virtue: What LGBTQ People Know about Life and Love and How It Can Revitalize Christianity by Rev. Elizabeth M. Edman. You'll learn and explore how the insights and experiences of people in the LGBTQIA+ community might help the Church more faithfully live out its call to follow Jesus in the world. All are welcome to attend any or all sessions as able. We also suggest having a copy of the book Queer Virtue to read with the class. Click here to attend via Zoom. Questions? Contact Jennie Clark.
- Session 1: Identity/Pride Explore how knowing who you are is the first step to living a good life and being the person God created you to be. Led by Chris Clark
- Session 2: Risk/Coming Out The story of Abraham and Sarah offers a glimpse of what queer people risk by being the people God created them to be. Led by Jennie Clark
- Session 3: Touch: Divine love involves touch that both wounds and heals. Queer people model what it means to push past fear and find the love we all need. Led by Ann Hatfield.
- Session 4: Adoption/Authenticity: Queer people create communities that often become adoptive families. Christian community is meant to be like that: an inviting home, not an exclusive club. Led by Jill Reichert.
- Session 5: Scandal/Hospitality: Like Jesus, queer people know embracing scandal creates an ethical vision that frees us from shame and affirms the dignity of every human being. Led by Chris Clark
