New Chapter: A Divorce Recovery Program
Divorce can be one of life’s most difficult experiences to overcome. New Chapter leaders know your pain. We have lived it and are now dedicated to helping others who are going through the same emotional trauma that we have experienced. We are committed to helping to heal those newly separated, divorcing, and those divorced for years. New Chapter’s goal is to not only help you cope with divorce but to grow through divorce. We use a Christian based self-directed process with the effective support and leadership of trained volunteers.
We believe that your experience with us will provide you with educational tools to heal from divorce and to develop a renewed sense of well-being as you move forward on your journey toward recovery and rebuilding your life. We are here to walk along side you, to support and encourage you. Our program will provide you with the right mix of information and resources for you to successfully move on to a happy, healthy, and rewarding future.
What to Expect
New Chapter is a Christian-based, educational and supportive 8-week process. Classes are held weekly at a location in the facility that provides a safe and private environment. The process is designed to be experienced in a small group setting, typically with 6-10 participants. The program is based on The Divorce Recovery Workbook by Mark S. Rye and Crystal Dea Moore.
Topics covered will include the following:
- Understanding the “grief cycle” and its impact
- Handling the emotional roller coaster that is frequently present in divorce
- Learning to forgive
- Dealing with your ex-spouse
- Responding to your children
- Perspectives on divorce and remarriage
- Communication and how to be better at it
- Rebuilding one’s life after divorce
- Insights and strategies on building healthy relationships in the future.
At New Chapter, the confidentiality of all participants is key to the work of our group. What we share will be kept in strict confidence. For more information about Westminster Presbyterian Church’s New Chapter program or for the dates of the next session please contact Ann Hatfield.
